Newborn Screenings

By law, every child born in Ohio must be tested for illnesses or disorders that may have life altering affects. Children born in hospitals are evaluated prior to discharge home. If subsequent testing is necessary, it can be completed at the Public Health clinic.  Children born in the home should be examined and tested in the Public Health clinic as soon after birth as possible.  One lab test will provide the results for diagnosing 30 different disorders.  Having these results early in life can prevent further complications by providing early treatment if necessary.  Many of these disorders if left untreated can lead to mental and/or physical disabilities.
